Dr. Alexander Beard, originally from Florida, brings a diverse and rich background to our practice in Downtown Chicago, IL. He earned his MD from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, following a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the same institution. Before attending medical school, Dr. Beard worked as an instructor for the SAT, ACT, and MCAT with The Princeton Review, a role that sharpened his teaching and mentoring skills—an approach he continues to apply in his medical career. He completed his residency at The George Washington University Psychiatry Residency Program, where he also served as Inpatient Chief Resident, further honing his leadership abilities.
Dr. Beard's clinical focus centers on treating depression, anxiety, and the psychological challenges associated with life-changing medical diagnoses and end-of-life issues. His interest in psychodynamic psychotherapy complements his work in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with experience in a variety of care levels including IOP/PHP/residential, consultation/liaison psychiatry, and psycho-oncology. He brings a compassionate, patient-centered approach to treatment, underpinned by his expertise in both traditional psychiatric care and psychoanalytic techniques. Dr. Beard is also a published researcher, with contributions to studies on thrombosis in AML patients, and he has presented his work at major psychiatric and medical conferences.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Beard enjoys traveling, playing video games, and collecting card games. He is nearly fluent in Spanish and conversational in Mandarin, which enhances his ability to connect with and serve a diverse patient population.
